The inn, on a mile of sandy beach along the coast of Maine, offers 62 guestrooms and one- or two-bedroom suites with private exterior entrances. And, of course, guests can bring their own canines; the inn has been welcoming dogs and their owners with over-the-top pampering for almost 30 years. There are no size or weight limits, no pet fees, complimentary water bowls, beach towels, blankets, and signature treats at turndown. Gourmet pet menus are available for your doggie divas with advanced reservations. The inn also provides a list of nearby walking trails, pet-friendly beaches and free-range parks
The luxury resort (a member of the prestigious Virtuoso group) also has an award-winning spa and restaurant.
The ingenious idea to serve as a foster home for shelter dogs was a natural next step for the inn, as a green hotel, to support a community organization that was working to save dogs’ lives.
Visitors are welcomed by the friendly shelter pups in the lobby. The staff walk, feed, care and love the dogs. Usually about 45 dogs a year are given a temporary home at the inn. Guests are welcome to walk and play with the foster dogs and happily, many guests fall in love and adopt. To date, 154 dogs have been adopted and moved onto loving homes after finding temporary shelter at the Inn.
And one of the most gratifying aspects for inn staff is when previous guests return with their adopted dogs to enjoy the inn – and potential new best friends.
Rates start at about $250 for midweek in the off-season, and can go as high as $1,100 during peak periods. Average prices range from about $300 to $600.
