Dogs have taken over Central Park!
Wait, that’s not new. What is new is “Dogs,” an installation of sculptures by Camille Henrot at the southeast entrance to the NYC park.
Building on an existing series, the French artist’s installation includes new sculptures in a variety of materials suited to the outdoors, such as bronze, stone, steel and concrete. Each work is born out of an accumulation of visual references, including Saul Steinberg drawings, Tex Avery cartoons, ancient Egyptian sculpture, dog show competitions and more. There are little dogs, big dogs, highly stylized ones and more lifelike ones. Whimsical.
It’s free, and leashed dogs are permitted. The dogs are at the entrance to the park in Doris C. Freedman Plaza at 60th Street and Fifth Avenue. The dogs remain until Aug. 29, 2027.
