OK, these bags are too cute not to mention.
JW Pei has its heart in the right place – animals. Animal-shaped and -adorned handbags, that is. And not one of them is leather.
What drew my eye was the Coco Shaggy Dog Shaped Bag in a soft faux beige suede with layered fringe detailing. It’s got a small red bow accent on the head and black hardware for the nose and eyes. The structured silhouette has both a top handle and an adjustable crossbody strap with gold-tone hardware. The bag goes for $259 on the JW Pei website, which is more than I have ever spent on a handbag but definitely gave me pause. There’s also a wonderful, sweater-wearing dachshund bag for $219.
There are several lower-priced models at Amazon, including the Bruna Dachshund Metal Handle Top Handle Bag with a doxie sculpture for $119. If you’re feeling offbeat, there are also penguin, mouse, whale and fox bags – plus a very cool, Georgia O’Keeffe-esque orchid model.
