OCT. 4 IS ALL ABOUT THE ANIMALS

Featured Stories
  • Today is World Animal Day,  celebrated every year on Oct. 4.

This year’s theme is “See the World Through Their Eyes,” encouraging people to pause, consider life from an animal’s perspective, and recognize animals as sentient beings.

The day is meant to raise global awareness for animal welfare, improve living standards for farm and captive animals and highlight habitat and ecosystem preservation and wildlife conservation.

Oct. 4 is also St. Francis Day, with Blessings of the Animals held in the United States and many other countries. Most are held in churches, but rabbis sometimes get involved, too.

There are activities worldwide with shelters, charities and community groups hosting fun runs, educational symposiums, and fundraising campaigns and events.

Today is also St. Francis Day, honoring Francis, the patron saint of animals. So many churches offer Blessings of the Animals, always a moving and fun event!
