Want to bike with your dog, let him or her feel the wind in their ears? Check out the MOD Bikes Electric Bike with Sidecar, a retro-inspired electric bicycle setup designed primarily for carrying pets and, OK, you can fit a kid or some extra cargo in the sidecar, too. Created in Austin, these e-bikes combine a vintage 1940s motorcycle aesthetic with modern, torque-sensing electric performance.
There are three models:
- MOD Easy SideCar 3: $3,899
This is the flagship, motorcycle-inspired cruiser featuring aggressive styling, a classic frame layout, and a faux-leather Selle Royal Drifter saddle. - MOD Easy SideCar Sahara: $3,899
A vintage, military-inspired limited edition model styled after the iconic 1940s BMW R75 motorcycle. - MOD Groove SideCar 3: $3,499
A step-through beach cruiser option that offers easier mounting and dismounting along with a relaxed, back-upright build.
The ebikes are capable of speeds up to 20 to 28 mph depending on the selected configuration and class settings. They can travel up to 50 miles on a single charge, or 100 miles with a dual-battery configuration.
The sidecar features a built-in doggie door for easy pet entry and a removable padded seat with a seatbelt. It is also fully detachable, but then you couldn’t take your dog. The bike has hydraulic disc brakes and a front dual suspension (front fork and a suspension seat post) to smooth out bumps.
While you may need to practice a little to master the sidecar balance, it’s designed for adults and seniors as well. The only drawback (besides the price) is that it’s recommended for people 5-foot-3 or taller. Which leaves me out.
