In the far north of Turkey, Seyma Özberk cares for more than150 dogs — many of them injured, disabled, or abandoned. She has sacrificed almost everything for the animals – she left her job and apartment to care full-time for vulnerable animals. Seyma now lives in a small container without a bathroom — so every euro can go to food and medicine.
Thanks to her, these animals finally have found safety and loving care.
Özberk’s project is one of many supported by Animal Heroes, an emergency aid organization for animals, founded in the Netherlands in 2022 and operating globally. In their first year, they helped more than 14,500 animals, offering volunteers and donations for rescues, treatments and safe havens for animals in Lebanon, Gaza, Ukraine, Turkey and beyond.
They support the heroes who risk everything – sometimes including their own safety – to save animals in crisis. Animal heroes around the world are helping in the most difficult circumstances, such as conflict areas or natural disasters. Often, they work with little recognition and limited resources.
Donations can be made to the organization as a whole, or you can help sponsor one of their many projects, such as: supporting more than 100 dogs rescued from fake shelters in Uganda; building doghouse villages in Ukraine; funding medicine for dogs, donkeys and horses in Gaza, and many more.
