MCCARTNEY DESIGNS FOR THE FUTURE

Fashion designer Stella McCartney (Paul McCartney’s daughter) has received the Global Elite Award for Leading Luxury Fashion Brand for Sustainable Innovation. She was also awarded for the “Best Luxury Moment” by PETA for her showcase of plant-based feathers (Fevvers). Both of these prestigious honors recognize her pioneering, cruelty-free and eco-conscious contributions to the fashion industry.

“I grew up in a family that was very conscious, very kind. We’re vegetarians,” said McCartney, on the Jimmy Fallon show recently. “So I went into a biz that kills billions of animals for bags and shoes and jackets and nonsense, quite frankly,” she added, ironically. “So I decided I’m not going to compromise my ethics, I’m not going to eat them, not going to wear them.

“I try to provide solutions, she said, explaining that she works with a lot of young innovators. And so she makes mushroom handbags, and a lot of accessories out of the waste of the apple industry, such as apple pulp, and the wine industry.” She makes faux leather jackets, clothing out of Piñayarn, a plant-based, recyclable and biodegradable textile and sneakers that  Time magazine called one of the best innovations of 2025.

Her company is celebrating its 25th year.

“I’m always so dumbfounded how unfashionable, uncool and ancient about the way that [the fashion industry] makes and manufactures.

“Quite frankly, it’s the future of fashion.”

McCartney’s fashions are unfortunately priced out of the range of most casual shoppers. But her innovations, as she predicts, will probably filter down to others in the industry, too.
